It is our common responsibility to take care of our Earth
We celebrate the Earth Day on 22 April since 1970 - in Hungary, only since 18 years.
This date we remember how much damage can people cause to the nature by polluting the air and waters, wasting energy sources, exterminating forests, acting indifferent to endangered species of animals and plants.
It would be a sad task to list all the sorts of living beings which could disappear (or already had disappeared) from the face of the Earth because of the irresponsibility of the human race.
People do not spare their own sake: we must face the consequences of global warming (intemperate weather, storms and draught), too; the smog above the cities and the poisons getting to the soil and to the waters endanger our health and life, too.
We could hear many times that global warming is caused by carbon dioxide emission, and the poisonous garbage which could not be composted cause bad damages.
Fortunately environmentalists try to point out our personal responsibility.
Some steps we can take:
- Use energy-efficient light bulbs
- Have dripping taps fixed
- Do not leave the lights on in empty rooms
- We switch off the television and the computer if we didn't use them
- Go by mass transporting vehicles, bike or walk instead of drive a car
- Do not produce too much plastic garbage (plastic bags, bottles)
The test on the link below can show us how big our "ecological footprint" - which means how much do we care about saving our environment.
